Maori Surnames and the English Equivalents
poutokomanawa
Kia ora!

Sometimes when people are searching for whakapapa working out the equivalent Maori surnames in English is where they have trouble.

So I have decided to put together a list of Maori surnames and their English equivalents.

If you know of any that I have left off, add them to this post. Once there are quite a few names, I will gather them all up and add them in the Lists at the Whakapapa Club with a link back to here.

Hopefully this will help whanau to find whanau.

Also, this list does not mean that these translations apply to all whanau names. It is just that sometimes, the english equivalent is used.
